Each face in the composition depicts Renee Cox at different moments in her career, based on shots taken during films or from her own portfolio of artwork. I admire her strength as a creative and her perseverance in her message for social change. The children represent a future generation she is fighting for. Part of my painting is based on Cox collection of photographs called "Queen Nanny of the Maroons."
